4k Flash Game Competition

On February 6th, 2009, we challenged the community to show us the power of Flash platform and the ingenuity of its developers.
The deafening response came back this week in the form of 29 kick ass games from some of the best Flash game developers in the world. The entries run the gamut from retro game remakes to impressive showcases of some of Flash’s most under utilized capabilities.
Each one of these amazing games is 4,096 bytes or less. To illustrate how small that is, you can fit two of these games, with room to spare, into the same hard drive space occupied by the Google logo (8,558 bytes). Comparing it visually with a 3MB MP3 gives a real sense of just how small these games really are:

We assembled a crack team of judges to pour over each entry and pick the competition’s 1st Place and 2nd Place winners. We need your help to award the Audience Choice prize. It will go to the entry that receives the most votes before next Friday, March 20th, 2009 (1st and 2nd place are not eligible though). Want to vote? Skip the awards. Otherwise, drum roll please…

Thank You!
Thank you to all the competitors who entered the competition. It was a truly challenging task to pick only two winners out of so many amazing entries.
Thank you to Michael Scarpelli and Chris Rhodes for helping me out with the judging.
Thank you to Gaming Your Way for providing the awesome second place prize (and for fielding an entry). You guys rock!

Thanks for 2nd place, Urbansquall!
This was a tough contest with a lot of quality entries, and I don’t envy being a judge in this race! Particular props to Ghost4Koin, 4kPillars, Falling with Style, and Pie, all fine games that I would have been happy to lose to had the judging gone differently.
Looking forward to taking a stab at #1 in July!

There were about 5 entries that were pretty much neck and neck.

Oops! Read about the problems with the upload too late — ie read the email on 12 March for Mar 9 after the cut-off date. Soooo, I missed out on the contest but my submission was 3.13KB and folks can view the protected version at mochi, kongregate or new grounds.
Thanks for sponsoring this contest … this was fun trying to squeeze a playable game into 4KB.
