Author’s Readme

You will probably want to read the help before playing the game. The entire game weighs 3651 bytes. Even with the techniques I used I still had to make it a very simple game to keep it under 4kb. But, even though I do say so myself, the game turned out to be a stack of fun! Enjoy the game but don’t play it too much or the bright colours may damage your eyes. ;) My high score is 34756. See if you can beat it!

My main trick for saving bytes was to use extremely short variable and function names. Nearly all of my variable names are two letters long ( there are a few exceptions here and there ). I also added functions for any repeated code I could see. ( I saved 40 bytes by using a function to return the html code! ) I opted for AS2, well because it’s the best I have!

Judge’s Comments

Michael: At first I had no idea what was going on in Switch, even after I read the directions. A second playthrough was more illuminating. I appreciate the concept at work here (keep your ship off the path that is the same color that the ship is), but something seems missing. Perhaps it’s too easy? Or that it sometimes boxes you in and you can’t help but lose a life? I’m not sure. It seems like I should enjoy it, but something was off for me.

Chris: The gameplay mechanic is very interesting, a lot could be built from it. At the moment it is let down because it never really gets too hard. Liked the flood fill powerup.

Panayoti: A bit of a color match / avoidance game. I couldn’t quite wrap my head around the gameplay even after reading the help like 6 times and playing the game several times. Once I understood the basic premise, I definitely had more fun, but the pacing in the game was too slow to keep me from moving on to the next entry.
