Author’s Readme
Originally, the idea was to make a Tetris-like game to learn how to program in pure AS3 (I don’t have Flash, everything is done with the free software Flashdevelop). The first version of the game weighted 49 Ko and I was very happy with it. Then I learnt about the 4k competition and decided to give it a try. Now my swf is less than 4k ! It’s amazing how much one can optimize a crappy code
Judge’s Comments
Michael: I enjoy a quality Tetris-variant, and that’s exactly what Color Stack is. The gameplay is very simple, but a mistake is costly. Match any more than just 4 color squares in a group and they become impassable grey blocks. Every 5 matches speeds up the blocks and advances the bottom of the screen up one row. Quick and enjoyable.
Chris: Thought this was a little basic at first, but speeding up helped make this an enjoyably frantic game. Improvements on smooth tile movement and graphics would have put this higher.
Panayoti: The best part of Colorstack has to be the great difficulty progression. It starts off slow and almost boring, but then gets down right crazy as the game carries on. It was fun but lacked the polish to make it break out from the pack.
