"We do it because we can"
Judge’s Comments
Michael: Bovis really hits the mark on retro-cool graphics. This is a vertical shooter that appears to just be you versus an invincible boss. It’s great fun dodging the barrage of bullets he throws your way, but once you’ve timed out his patterns, you’ll start wondering if that’s all the game has and if you can ever beat this foe. Then you’ll slip up and die. A real standout for gameplay and looks, but content was lacking for me.
Chris: Can’t go wrong with a good shmup. Solid all around, fast with lots of bullets on the screen. Wish the boss would explode, or his patterns would change or get a bit more intense.
Panayoti: For me, this was the most visually distinctive entry in the competition. The highly stylized retro graphics are simply gorgeous and really make a lasting impact. The game is fun but also brutally hard. After I feel like I had a basic mastery of the controls I found myself wishing there was more to do. Bovis Abyssus was definitely one of the stand outs in the competition.

All around beautiful game. You made some sacrifices to get the look / feel you wanted (such as including bitmaps, and even your own font!), but I feel it paid off, and really gives the impression of an old Gameboy cart. The boss’s firing modes are quite well balanced, and found myself fairly entertained up until around 10,000 points. It’s the deliciously tantalizing sort of bite that is absolutely delectable for the small morsel that it is, and leaves you peeking around on your plate to see if there’s anything more there that you might have missed.
Well done on a fun and solid little entry!
